Established in 1996 and Internet subsidiary of Olsen & Associates,
OANDA (http://www.oanda.com) is a company created to make
personal and business transactions that utilize foreign currencies
easier for Internet users.
OANDA offers a wide range of online services: currency converters (164 Currency Converter, Cheat Sheet for Travelers, Customizable Currency Converter, Customizable Cheat Sheet for Travelers, Historical Currency Table, Interactive Daily Table, FX Playground), Foreign Exchange Protocol (FXP) and financial forecasting services (Directional Forecasts and Timing Indicators, Today's Market Insight).
Euro Assistant Pro uses OANDA Foreign Exchange Protocol for the automatic update of euro exchange rates over the Internet. OANDA provides daily euro exchange rates for the following currencies:
To automatically update euro exchage rates choose the "Update Rates..." command in the File menu. Notice that rates can be retrieved over the Internet provided that you have Open Transport 1.1.1 or higher. If you want Euro Assistant Pro to establish the PPP connection, then you also need OT/PPP or any other Open Transport compatible PPP.
The "Update Rates..." command opens the "Update Rates" dialog box, which lists all Euro Assistant Pro non-EMU currencies (both predefined and custom) and their current euro exchange rates.
Check the currencies whose euro exchange rates you want to update. To check all currencies click "All", to uncheck them all click "None". Notice that the "Update" button is disabled if no currency is checked in the list.
Then click the "Update" button to contact the fxp.oanda.com server and retrieve euro rates using OANDA Foreign Exchange Protocol (FXP).
Click "Cancel" if you want to stop the connection attempt and, once the connection is established, "Stop" if you want abort the update and to disconnect.

Once the retrieval of euro exchange rates is accomplished, the Rate column lists the updated euro rates, whereas the Log column displays the result of each performed FXP query. A successful query (and the update of the corresponding rate) is indicated by the message "updated". An unsuccessful query on the contrary is signalled by the corresponding error message ("rate not available", "invalid rate", "bad request", "ISO code not available", "server error", "proxy error").
If you wish to know more about OANDA, their Foreign Exchange Protocol or the other online services they offer, simply click the "www.oanda.com" button to visit the OANDA website.
Notice that once your 15-day trial period has expired, Euro Assistant Pro won't anymore update euro exchange rates over the Internet, unless you don't register your Euro Assistant Pro copy (see Registration).
Updating Rates at Startup

Euro exchange rates can be automatically updated at startup by checking the "Update rates at startup" option in the "Preferences" dialog box. Rates can be updated daily or weekly at startup. The update frequency is also to be specified in the "Preferences" dialog box (see Rates Update Preferences).
Updating Rates via a HTTP Proxy Server

If you don't want to directly access the Internet or are behind a firewall or any other security system, you can anyway automatically update euro exchange rates by connecting to fxp.oanda.com via a HTTP proxy server.
Check the "Use proxy" option in the "Preferences" dialog box (see Rates Update Preferences) and specify the HTTP proxy address and port number in the corresponding boxes (ask your network administrator or ISP for the proper HTTP proxy settings).
